It seems this zero moment time crisis is effecting this blog
if you saw a temporary blimp into the future ignore it
heh.
but series I have been working hard to put out this web comic and comic book series.
the interesting thing is that I start the kid with the cube fro presents as a bit of away to not only tell more stories about characters and ideals that come from The Kid With the Cubed Fro comic but as away to promote the comic as well. But I have found the challenge of promoting a webcomic is just as hard if not harder then promoting a print comic and the web comic takes about same amount of time (though it maybe because I was doing it in color...which I may not do in the next story arc.)

more work and delays
Well I have been able to get a few art gigs recently which I am very happy about but being only one person that means I have to cut back on some other things.
in other words I haven't had as much time to work on the 2nd issue of The Kid With The Cubed Fro. the story is written I just need to work on the art.
I feel a little conflicted about this but I would like to remind you that I will still be putting up a free weekly webcomic starring the kid and I will get back to work on the next issue as soon as I can.

they say don't read your reviews
Well I just saw my first reveiw of The Kid With the Cubed Fro.
and they trashed it. I would think I would feel upset about it, but I'm not...ok I'm a little sad. But I will just take all the things the reviewer had issue with and see them as areas I need to improve on. I would have been much happier if they loved it, but nothing get 100% good reviews and they did bring up some good points.
another reason I may not be to upset about the review is that after I sent the reveiewer a preview copy I noticed a few mistakes that I fixed before the issue came out. So that took out a few issues they had. That was big mistake on my part.

blocking the kid w/ the cubed fro
It interesting I had writers block writing the second issue of the kid with the cubed fro issue two so I starting working on the webcomic. at some point I had artist block or character design block and so I start a to do a few other things. Start writing a screenplay, wrote a yo mama joke book and started doing some freelance work.
Now my juices is following to get back to the Kid w/ the cubed Fro but may have to put it on the back burner to get some of this freelance stuff done.

Brer Warrior web marketing blitz
It's been a few months since I released the last issue of Brer Warrior and I'm gearing up with the release of our new title The Kid With The Cubed Fro and you may think that I will start a web compaign to market that book but over the weekend I have started a small banner ad campaign marketing Brer Warrior books.
While You look across the web you may see it.
Why you may ask am I still marketing an old comic when I well soon have a new one out. Simple because can still buy the old titles since they are print on demand and on kindle so it makes since to take a long view with things like marketing.

missed opportunities and tthe end of the world
Saturday I made a quick and silly post about the fact that the world didn't end and that post brought me a little bump in traffic. Which I'm happy for but if I had know that I think I might have written a better post, maybe make a comic or something for it.

Sometimes as a small business person you have to think on the fly.
as I'm close to finishing working on the first issue of The kid with the cubed for some things came up that may change my marketing plan
so I'm trying to relook at things and figure them out.
Luckly these event doesn't change the bulk of my marketing plan.

lonewolf trying to learn not to go at it alone
a little earlier today some family memembers saw some art I had laying around (it was from the minicomic day story) and said how nice it was (which surprised me because I did it so quickly to meet the 24 hour deadline that it's not the best I could do) and my sister in law (is that the correct term for your brother's wife or those that only work for the sister of your wife?) said that i should get into comics. Which I pointed out that I was working on it, it's just that I haven't had much success YET
that's when my youngest brother chimmed in that the problem is that I try to do it all by myself and that they are there to help. Which is very nice to hear.
had me thinking that I guess I do try to do things alone alot, heck people in my family didn't even know I have this comic book company that I spend most of my time on.
Of course so much of this is a solo job, the writing, the drawing the inking, writing blog post, etc that it's easy to forget that to have others help you on the other parts (and maybe with the things i listed as well)

mistakes and learning that yes I suck
here is something I have realized for a while but didn't want to share with anyone.
the first issue of Brer Warrior sucks...it looks terrible.
the problem is simple I have been thinking about getting into comics for a long time but haven't really attempted to. sure I submitted a few things to publishers and got them rejected (and that's if I heard anything from them in the first place) but a last year (well the year before last really) I made the leap.
I really didn't know what I was doing but learned a long the way. not kn owning what I was doing I used the wrong tools to work with on that issue. yes I use a pen to ink my book. I know what a moron inking not with brush and some Indian ink but a cheap pen.
I then scanned the book in to low of a res.
also I wasn't really good at coloring the cover...something deep down I notice when I did it but was to high on buzz of getting my first comic book out.
I learn from those mistakes, I'm now inking via gimp, scanning better and working on coloring.
I haven't talked about this because I wasn't sure if I should and to be honest very ashamed but I finally figure it's best to talk about it, maybe by talking about my mistakes someone else will be warned to look at what they are doing and not do the same boneheaded things I did.

off with their heads?
So a while ago I was drawing one of my comics and someone looked at my art work just as I finished drawing a female character's head but before I started drawing the character's body.
well they say that picture and got mad because they just thougth I was drawing sereved head and they started to cuss me out because of it. To put it mildly they basically called me a sick sexist psycho.
I told them that I was finished with the picture and they told me they didn't care as they kept yelling at me for a long time as I tried to explain.
after awhile I gave up and just finished my picture and then they say it and said..."oh"
no sorry, just "oh" and then they said..."why didn't you tell me you where still working on the picture?"
I replied that I did.
and agian they just said "oh"
Don't know why I'm sharing this story except that I thought it was interesting. Things like this is why I tend to not like people watch me while I draw.
I guess I can understand the anger a little the person didn't know what I was drawning and just went on what they say. But I would have thought it would have been easy to see that I was still drawing.

staying on the grind because it's better then many others
I'm sure you've had it. A day where you don't feel like working
depending on your job you've had it more often then not.
Today (well now yesterday) was one of those days for me.
It may surprise some but you still get that feeling sometimes when you are working for your self and doing something you love. Now being self employed it's easy to just not work and do something else because you have no boss that will fire you for slacking off but being self employed if you don't work you don't eat so the drive to plow trough is much stronger.

So a while ago when I was working on the second issue of Brer Warrior my brother Brian stoped by as I was inking a page of Brer Warrior on the computer (actually I was getting rid of some of the pencil markets because I was an idiot didn't open a new layer before I started inking it)
He looked at it and said "that's not going to sell...you know what you should do...something like the X-men."
I responded "I don't want to do something like the X-men."
"why not? you read the X-men..."
"I haven't read the X-men in years" I told him
"that don't make no sense you used to read it all the time"
It's clear that he assumes that because I still read comics that I have to read the same titles I liked as a kid.
"yeah and I stopped reading them around the mid 90's"
He still didn't either grasp this or didn't believe me.
"That don't make no since (something he says when it's clear he either doesn't understand something or just dismisses it) what the most popular comic...X-men...and what do people want want X-men! So when people are looking for another comic book they want something like the X-men, right? So after they read X-men they will go out and by your book" He said.
"yeah, if someone wants more X-men, Marvel has 3 X-men titles plus a bunch of X-men spin offs for them." I replied
"I didn't now that" he responded
"There where 2 x-men books and 4 or 5 spin-off books when we where kids"
"uh really didn't know that"
The thing that really got me about this was not only the fact that my little brother had no ideal what he is talking about but he said it with such confidence like he had some wise insight to guide me with.
