early draft for the actual first cover of The Kid Cubed Fro!

Last week I posted a picture saying it maybe the cover for the first issue of the kid with the cubed fro. Well I was on the fence about and decided to go with a different cover.

This is an early draft of the new cover. The character isn't colored and no text is added yet.

Brer Warrior web marketing blitz

It's been a few months since I released the last issue of Brer Warrior and I'm gearing up with the release of our new title The Kid With The Cubed Fro and you may think that I will start a web compaign to market that book but over the weekend I have started a small banner ad campaign marketing Brer Warrior books.

While You look across the web you may see it.

Why you may ask am I still marketing an old comic when I well soon have a new one out. Simple because can still buy the old titles since they are print on demand and on kindle so it makes since to take a long view with things like marketing.

Maybe The cover for the 1st issue of The Kid With The Cubed Fro

here it is minus text and logos

missed opportunities and tthe end of the world

Saturday I made a quick and silly post about the fact that the world didn't end and that post brought me a little bump in traffic. Which I'm happy for but if I had know that I think I might have written a better post, maybe make a comic or something for it.

The Kid With the Cubed Fro issue 1 pg 8

after I finished this page I noticed the kid in the last panel looks kind of like my nephew. Not the hair cut or anything just that the facial expression is one I've seen on his face.

lonewolf trying to learn not to go at it alone

a little earlier today some family memembers saw some art I had laying around (it was from the minicomic day story) and said how nice it was (which surprised me because I did it so quickly to meet the 24 hour deadline that it's not the best I could do) and my sister in law (is that the correct term for your brother's wife or those that only work for the sister of your wife?) said that i should get into comics. Which I pointed out that I was working on it, it's just that I haven't had much success YET

that's when my youngest brother chimmed in that the problem is that I try to do it all by myself and that they are there to help. Which is very nice to hear.

had me thinking that I guess I do try to do things alone alot, heck people in my family didn't even know I have this comic book company that I spend most of my time on.

Of course so much of this is a solo job, the writing, the drawing the inking, writing blog post, etc that it's easy to forget that to have others help you on the other parts (and maybe with the things i listed as well)

Happy Mother's Day

I know the day is almost over (I was spending celebrating mother's day with my mom) but I and Graffiti On The Sun wanted to wish everyone a happy Mother's Day.

mistakes and learning that yes I suck

here is something I have realized for a while but didn't want to share with anyone.

the first issue of Brer Warrior sucks...it looks terrible.

the problem is simple I have been thinking about getting into comics for a long time but haven't really attempted to. sure I submitted a few things to publishers and got them rejected (and that's if I heard anything from them in the first place) but a last year (well the year before last really) I made the leap.

I really didn't know what I was doing but learned a long the way. not kn owning what I was doing I used the wrong tools to work with on that issue. yes I use a pen to ink my book. I know what a moron inking not with brush and some Indian ink but a cheap pen.

I then scanned the book in to low of a res.

also I wasn't really good at coloring the cover...something deep down I notice when I did it but was to high on buzz of getting my first comic book out.

I learn from those mistakes, I'm now inking via gimp, scanning better and working on coloring.

I haven't talked about this because I wasn't sure if I should and to be honest very ashamed but I finally figure it's best to talk about it, maybe by talking about my mistakes someone else will be warned to look at what they are doing and not do the same boneheaded things I did.
